Welcome to The UWI Open Campus
The University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus is one of the four campuses that make up the pillars of The UWI, which was established in 1948. The institutionally accredited UWI serves the people of the region by offering higher, distance and continuing educational products, research and innovation and outreach services from all of its locations across the Caribbean region.
Multi-mode teaching approach
The Open Campus has developed a unique approach in the Caribbean region to enhancing the student experience in innovative continuing and professional education, undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education study programmes and courses by distance, blended, online and face-to-face learning modes.
Three-tiered registration process
We offer a three-tiered registration structure to suit particular needs and educational backgrounds. The system allows our students to move and transfer within the entire University system to reach the required standard.
Within the region, The UWI Open Campus is simultaneously a virtual campus with nearly 50 physical site locations in 17 English-speaking Caribbean countries.

Open and available to all
The Open Campus of the University of the West Indies believes that the high-quality university education, research and services available at our institution should be open and available to all people who wish to reach their full potential inside and outside of the Caribbean region. The Open Campus delivers quality teaching and learning experiences, innovative pedagogic design, relevant research and community partnerships to deliver face-to-face, blended and online learning.
The Open Campus of the University of the West Indies is based on the idea that the high-quality university education, research and services available at our institution should be open and available to all people who wish to reach their full potential inside and outside of the Caribbean region.
Highly trained teachers and researchers drawn from local, regional and international sources constitute our Faculty, guaranteeing diversity in culture and a wide range of experiences.

- Expand the UWI Open Campus footprint.
- Promote and undertake research as a vehicle for Caribbean development especially within the UWI-12.
- Build strategic networks regionally and globally to support the university's mission and vision and core values.
- Continue to create inter-departmental alignment and system integration to support the core business of the Campus.
In addition to all our online and blended programmes, the Open Campus has almost 50 in-country site locations in 17 Caribbean countries. We offer more than 200 full academic programmes and numerous short continuing and professional education courses to over 20,000 students.
On July 10, 2014, the Accreditation Council of Trinidad & Tobago (ACTT) presented the Open Campus with a Certificate of Mutual Recognition at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Tertiary Education and Skills Training (MTEST) headed by the Hon. Fazal Karim. The certificate is based on the institutional accreditation awarded to the Open Campus by the Barbados Accreditation Council (BAC) for six years from June 2013 to June 17, 2019. The University Council of Jamaica also recognises the institutional accreditation of the Open Campus by its regional counterparts.
As of August 1, 2014, Academic Programming and Development (APAD) Director, Dr. Joel Warrican, was appointed Chair of the Open and Distance Education at the Commonwealth of Learning (COL).
